A BIT ABOUT THE CHARITY BLOG

Each year, me and my wife Hazel have decided to help a Charity, by donating 25p every goal we see at the matches we attend. Over the years, people and clubs have also donated as we have visited the grounds and we have raised over £2,300 in the 3 seasons we have run the Blog.
During the 2014-15 season, we are supporting "Support Dogs" who train Dogs to transform lives of people with Autism and other disabilities. So if you would like to make a donation(no matter how small) and you see me at a match, please come up to me or Hazel, we would be very grateful. All Donators will get a mention on the blog.

THE MATCH THAT HAD EVERYTHING

Central Midlands League Cup
SHERWOOD COLLIERY FC 5 BULWELL FC 4
after extra time

With Hazel away visiting her daughter in Preston with Shawn, I got a quiet weekend at home, so the idea was to get up early on the Saturday Morning and catch a game and have a Groundhop Meeting with one of this seasons host clubs, late Friday evening I got a phone call to tell me that the visitors couldn't raise a side, so the meeting has been placed at a later date, so in came plan B and with Sherwood Colliery only a stones throw away from my house and the temptation of them doing a all day breakfast, well this steer my way to the Debdale Sports Ground.

After paying my £3 enterance, I was joined by the 2 Ilkeston Brothers who always wear baseball caps, can never remember their names and we headed for the stand for what was to be quite a eventful match that had everything..9 goals..2 penalties scored..2 penalties missed..sending off..bit of handbags and of course extra time.

The game began with Bulwell attacking down the slope towards the clubhouse end and they were stringing some good moves together and it didn't take long for them to take the lead when a cross shot was pushed out by the home keeper on 5 minutes for JAKE FISHER to tap into a empty net. Sherwood tried to battle back on the break as Bulwell kept pressing forward but after 18 minutes, the homester got a deserved equaliser through JIM WHITMORE. From the kick off, Bulwell restored their lead, when they got a free kick on the left side and a bullet of a header by JAKE FISHER flew home.

Bulwell at this stage looked unstoppable and it looked only a matter of time before they scored again and this happened in the 28th minute, when JAKE FISHER slotted home a penalty and ensured his hat trick.

At half time, no one would have guessed what would have happened in the Second Half and on 49 minutes, Sherwood had the chance to close the gap when awarded a penalty. Craig Payne stepped up and blasted it well over the bar. Bulwell again attacked and on 53 minutes increased their lead to 4-1 when MAREK MAREK VIPOND smashed the ball home..surely now the tie was over?

After 58 minutes and Sherwood were awarded a second penalty and up stepped CRAIG PAYNE to make amends fro his previous effort and reduce the arrears to 4-2. This seemed to lift the home club and on 67 minutes, a cross from the right wing found out CRAIG PAYNE who glanced a superb header in to the bottom corner of the net, now it was 4-3 and game on.

With just 9 minutes to go, a free kick was floated in from the left and JOSH SMYTHE rose to head home the equaliser, but you still had a feeling there was more to this cup tie and so it proved as the tie went in to extra time.

After 102 minutes, CRIAG PAYNE headed home his hat trick and put Sherwood in the lead for the first time in the game, as Bulwell couldn't believe they were behind.

Just before half time in extra time, Ben Smedley was dismissed for a second yellow card when conceding a penalty. Up stepped Jake Fisher and hit the crossbar, as he went to head the all home, the referee blew for half time.

The second half of extra time saw Bulwell push everyone forward and they threw everything at the Sherwood defence but couldn't convert anymore chances to take this tie to penalties.

Really good to see some good friends from both clubs and a big thankyou to Mr Radford for a donation of programmes for my blogs charity stall.
