A BIT ABOUT THE CHARITY BLOG

Each year, me and my wife Hazel have decided to help a Charity, by donating 25p every goal we see at the matches we attend. Over the years, people and clubs have also donated as we have visited the grounds and we have raised over £2,300 in the 3 seasons we have run the Blog.
During the 2014-15 season, we are supporting "Support Dogs" who train Dogs to transform lives of people with Autism and other disabilities. So if you would like to make a donation(no matter how small) and you see me at a match, please come up to me or Hazel, we would be very grateful. All Donators will get a mention on the blog.

PENALTY MISSES COST SELSTON

Notts Senior FA Cup
3rd Round
RETFORD UNITED FC 4 SELSTON FC 3
After Extra Time

Selston must be kicking themselves and wondering how they didn't advance to the last 8 of the Notts Senior FA cup after missing three penalties in a game they lead for long periods.

On arrival it was nice to meet up with old friends at Cannon Park, Annie and Jon Knight, then Dave & Janet and Rob Waite and also meet behind the bar Bill Wyles. Before the game, me and hazel tucked in to pie and chips that were very good.

Before the game I was joined by Notts Senior League Secretary John Beeston and at kick off we took our place near the halfway line as the temperature dipped to the coldest night of the year.

The game began bright for the step 7 visitors when a corner from the left side was floated in and PERRY MARRIOTT forced the ball home after just 3 minutes. Jay Cooper then had a one on one chance with the step 5 keeper but wasn't able to double Selstons advantage.

On 16 minutes, Selston were awarded a penalty, to which Airey hit over the bar and out the ground. On 20 minutes, Retford were back on level terms through HUTCHINSON.

Selston continued to press forward and the home supporters were giving them a lot of respect and kind words and on 44 minutes, they took a deserved lead through a JOE RILEY volley.

In the first minute of the Second Half, Selston were awarded their second penalty of the game, where Airey stepped up again and forced the keeper in to a save and the chance was gone.

With 65 minutes on the clock, Retford were back level through BATTY who headed home. With chances at both ends it was anyones game, but at the end of 90 minutes, it remained at 2-2.

After 91 minutes, Selston took the lead for a third time, when DOMINIC JAMES fired home, but within a minute, The homesters had drawn level again when HUTCHINSON got his second goal of the game.

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Selston and it was Retford who was now on the attack more and after 98 minutes BATTY hit a 30 yard shot to give them the lead for the first time in the game.

There was still to be a sting in the tail as in the 120th minute, Selston was awarded their third penalty of the night to take this tie to penalties, but it wasn't to be as Jay Coopers low penalty was superbly saved by the man of the match in the Retford net, from the breakaway, Perry Marriott bought down a home player to receive his second yellow card of the night.
