KEYWORTH ARE IN SEVENTH HEAVEN AT KIRTON

Was supposed to be going to Beeston AFC v Awsworth Villa, but after a week of trying to contact anyone at Beeston AFC without any success and then in the morning Hazel not feeling too well, I decided to stay local as I go in to Hospital for between 7 and 10 days on Sunday Evening. I had a look at the local fixtures and knowing a few hoppers would be at Kirton, I checked with secretary Jamie Birch the game would be on.

 

Hoppers had indeed turned up from as far as Southampton, Norwich, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Retford. Mrs Birch was doing a steady trade in her Refreshment table with the fresh chicken and stuffing rolls going very well with me having Cheese and onion rolls to tuck in to.

 

The game kicked off and the visitors looked quicker to that first ball and after just 10 minutes, IAN MARLEY opened the scoring to put United 1-0 in front. Kirton kicked off and again Keyworth closed them down quickly and on 13 minutes JACK SMITH doubled the score to 2-0. On 15 minutes, came the goal of the game, when left winger CALLUM BARRATT cut in from the left wing and hit a volley from outside the area that dipped in to the top right of the net to make it 3-0.

 

On 43 minutes, DANIEL BIRCUMSHAW gave the homesters some hope when he beat the oncoming Keyworth keeper and made it 3-1.

 

On 52 minutes, the referee saw a adjudged incident to which he awarded the visitors a penalty which upset some of the Kirton faithful, to which GREG WHATNALL stepped up and planted home.

 

On 65 minutes, Jack Smith got his second and his sides fifth goal of the game. Kirton were beginning to crumble whilst Keyworth introduced JURGEN CHARLESWORTH off the bench and after just 40 seconds with his first touch on 71 minutes, he had the ball in the back of the net.

 

On 75 minutes with Jack Smith looking down on goal looking for his hat trick, LUKE BURRELL sneaked the ball off him and scored Keyworth's seventh.

BOWEN HITS THE BULLSEYE

Notts Senior League Cup Quarter Final

After a few weeks of being poorly and missing football, I didn't  feel too bad so headed for this Quarter Final tie between two tams both high-flying in their divisions. Both clubs are in 2nd position, Wollaton in the Senior Division whilst Underwood are in the division below.

 

Underwood arrived about the same time as myself and told me they were under strength and having to field six of their reserve team, so this wasn't a good sign to be taking on a strong home side.

 

Before the match, I had a cuppa and then was met by local hopper Michael Pridgeon who purchased his Advanced Notts Senior League Groundhop Ticket..heres the LINK for more Information for Tickets and badge sets.

 

We strolled to the far side of the ground as the teams took their positions on the pitch and the first few minutes was very even but it was Wollaton who were doing the pushing forward and after 11 minutes took a deserved lead when a shot bounced off the right hand post and end just outside the box  for RYAN BOWEN to smash a low drive in to the net.

 

Underwood to their credit battled but didn't trouble the home keeper apart from long high crosses which he took comfortably.

 

After half time cuppa in the Wollaton Pavillion, which is famous for the ITV Cricket Comedy Programme "Outside Edge", me and Michael headed back out to the far side of the ground again.

 

Wollaton came out with a lot more confidence and attacked and it looked a matter of when the second goal would arrive and on 62 minutes, Mark Middleton hit a low free kick from the right side which ANTHONY ATKINS squeezed past the visiting keeper to make it 2-0.

 

Underwood battled and had a couple of chances on the break and forced a couple of corners but it lead to nothing for them and in the 73rd mi nute, a well worked break saw Bowen hit the post and the ball end up back at his feet for him to roll it across the 6 yard line for DANE RAWSON to walk in to make it 3-0.

 

A few of the Underwood young players legs were beginning to cease up now and the homesters made a triple substitution and this speeded the Wollaton players game up and after 82 minutes ADAM CAMPBELL made it 4-0.

 

In the final minute of injury time, the man who had began the scoring ended it when RYAN BOWEN fired his side in to the Semi Finals.

 

Must add that young referee Lewis Saunders-Johnson had a very good game.

THE LIONS ROAR TO VICTORY

For some time now, Ive been invited to the Town Ground by Tony Squires and Scott Ward and with Hazel going away to watch the ballet for the week up in Scotland and the kind offer of the lift home by Scott Ward, I felt I really should take up this offer. Hazel dropped me and my 10 year old son Shawn off outside the clubhouse and we went in, the first person to greet me was old friend Keith Costello who bought me a pint and told me that the club had named a stand after him.

 

Scott arrived and gave me a programme and told me that there was a ticket on the gate. At the gate, I mentioned my name and the chap said "I know that name from a long tome ago at Arnold Town" It was to be Mr Baker(Heanor Town's Keeper who started his career at Arnold Town in the late 1990's. As I walked through the turnstiles, me and Shawn were met by Trish, a lovely lady who I had known from Blidworth FC and now does the hospitality with other ladies here at Heanor and then Tony Squires gave me a free teamsheet.

 

The game kicked off and I stood with Tony during the First Half, with the game a bit of hoofing and puffing but not much too offer apart from one scrambled effort by the vistors to which Baker was equal to low down saving.

 

At Half Time, we were welcomed in the hospitality cabin, where Tony has a little club shop and Shawn came away with a chip sannie and a piece of cake, the lovely friendly Trish made me a lovely black tea, whilst I had a chat with the Liversedge followers.

 

Out for the Second Half and the football picked up and Heanor were on the front foot with a couple of decent efforts including a double save by the visiting keeper. On 55 minutes, the Lions were awarded a free kick some 35 yards out and up stepped SAMUEL JONES who fired a low drive in to the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0.

 

On 64 minutes, a bit of a scramble in the Liversedge box, saw the ball come out to SEAN GREGORY who fired home his first goal for the club after his recent move from Notts Senior League Club Selston FC to double Heanor's advantage.

 

Heanor looked comfortable and took their foot off the gas, but were caught out by a long ball out of the Liversedge defence and JOEL FARRER cut in from the wing and reduced the arrears to 2-1.

 

This sparked Heanor back in to life and they stepped up their game again and on 81 minute, NATHAN BERGER wrapped up the points to make it 3-1.

 

A very friendly club Heanor Town FC are and well worthy of a visit, they have done quite a bit of ground improvements in the past couple of years and the programme that is produced is one of the best Ive seen for quite a long time.

 

I'd like to thank Scott Ward who gave me and Shawn a lift home and kindly donated £5 from the club to this Blogs Charity, so with the 4 goals scored as well takes the total up to £363.00

COTTON STITCHS UP VICTORY FOR THE BULLS

NCEL Division One

SHIREBROOK TOWN 2 AFC MANSFIELD 3

 

Whilst the wife took a trip to Shirebrook to see her brother, Shirebrook Town FC hosted AFC Mansfield. On arrival the Shirebrook people were confident of the game going ahead but there were concerns from the AFC camp. The referee was happy with the pitch saying it was a bit hard but no harder than a pre season pitch and to be fair the pitch looked in good condition, but the referee is always in a damn if you are right or damn if you are wrong situation.

 

As I entered the ground it was a mass of who's who from local clubs to local referee's, so a lot of chat before kick off about each clubs etc. I don't usually stand at Shirebrook, I usually head for the far side of the ground and sit in the stand, but I spotted Neil McLaughlin from Belper who I'd not seen for some time, so stood with him for the first 25 minutes and then noticed in front of me, the famous Macken couple Lee Stewart & Katie Wallace so stood with them for the rest of the game.

The game itself was very entertaining and it was the Bulls that took the lead after just 11 minutes, when TOMMY HANNINGAN hit a low drive home. Shirebrook pushed forward and after 35 minutes were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Kieran Watson and AFC's Keeper dived to his right and parried the ball out, Watson then got the rebound and shot and the keeper was equal to it again and the chance was gone.

 

On 36 minutes, the referee waved the 2 Assistant Referees over to him and the Senior Assistant took over in the middle whilst the referee took up the line. On 41 minutes, the honme crowd raised their voices as they took the lead through LIAM MORRIS, but right on half time, AFC drew back level when Declan Brewin knocked the ball back for CRAIG MITCHELL to hammer home.

 

The Second Half kicked off and the original referee had been replaced on the line by a 4th official Jamie O Connor who had gone along to watch the game. The Second Half seemed to fly and towards the end, a few tackles seemed to be going in a bit meaty, but the referee kept a lid on things so it didn't spill over. As the game looked to be heading for a draw, Shirebrook gave a free kick away in the 87th minute, about 30 yards out. Up stepped GLYN COTTON who placed a superb curling free kick in to the top corner of the net. A goal well worthy of the admission fee itself to give AFC Mansfield the three points.

 

AFC Mansfield on Saturday at are home to play their BIGGEST game in their history when they host Tadcaster Albion in the last 16 of the FA Vase with a 3pm kick off, so all local support would be welcome at Forest Town.
