SELSTON RUN OUT WINNERS AT THE LANE

SHERWOOD COLLIERY FC 1 SELSTON FC 5

I tweeted Sherwood Colliery earlier this week to check the game was still on as they had recently tweeted for appplicants for a new First Team and Reserve Team Managers, I got the positive reply so as I only live up the road from the Debdale Sports Ground, I was on my way.

 

On arrival I was met by Phil the chairman of Sherwood who explained that the team they had for tonight's match was a young side they had gathered together, whilst Selston NSL League Champions explained they were a few players short.

 

The match wasn't played on the usual Sherwood Colliery FC pitch but the one to the left of the ground, so not a new ground but certainly a bonus for me as a new pitch to visit.

 

The game kicked off and Selston were soon on the front foot and after just 7 minutes BEN MOORE fired them ahead. Sherwood didn't give up and battled hard but the away side was having the majority of the possession, but after a neat build up, a ball was played through to BILLY O NEILL after 22 minutes for him to bag the equaliser.

 

After a few substitutes for the second half, it was Selston who were straight on the attack and Selston retook their lead on 49 minutes when JOSH HARBOR placed the ball past the outcoming keeper. The game then went very even with Sherwood playing on the counter attack and thee Selston attacking line kept being caught offside.

 

On 65 minutes, the Selston Reserve Goalkeeper LUKE WIGLEY who was playing on the left wing rifled home his teams 3rd goal to give his side a 3-1 lead. At this stage, Selston's fitness began to show abit more than the home sides and after 70 minutes LUKE WRIGHT volleyed from just inside outside the penalty area to make it 4-1.

 

After 73 minutes, CAMERON SHORT made it 5-1 to Selston FC.

 

A good workout for both clubs with some good football being played.

SWANWICK GOAL MACHINE RUNS WILD

SWANWICK PENTRICH ROAD FC 9 BILBOROUGH TOWN FC 1

 

Had this pre season game mapped out as my facebook football group member Phil listed the game a few days back, just before leaving home, I gave the Bilborough Town Chairman Steve Lee a call to make sure the game was still on and he confirmed it was , but they only had a bare 11 or 12 young lads.

 

On arrival I was greeted by Phil and Kev and all the Swanwick Committee and had a quiet cuppa, then noticed that they had some club mugs, so was kindly given one along with some of their charity match programmes from the other week which will go on to my charity programme stall table this Saturday down at the Peterborough Groundhop.

 

The visitors arrived and it soon became clear that they were going to struggle for a side, but they did manage to muster 10 players though one had only had a hernia operation last week, so Swanwick borrowed them a player in the crowd to top them up to kick the game off with 11 players.

 

The first few minutes and Bilborough had more of the ball and went forward a couple of times, but it didn't take long before the Swans got in to stride and after just 5 Minutes DEAN OWEN opened the scoring. It looked then like a landslade was on our hands when after 8 minutes MATTHEW PHILLIPS made it 2-0.

 

Bilborough's heads didn't go down and they push at every opportunity they could with a few wide shots and good handling by the Swans keeper and they got their reward on 20 minutes when ASH MOORCROFT slide past the oncoming keeper to reduce the arrears, maybe a come back then?

 

Swanwick again upped their game as the bright sunshine glowed on to the pitch and after 29 minutes and 34 minutes, they had taken a 4-1 lead as GUY WILDING had added 2 goals to the home sides tally.

 

Just before half time, the Bilborough Town player who had the hernia operation last week left the field in pain, so his side were down to 10 men for the rest of the match.

 

After 54 minutes, LEWIS MASON tucked home the ball to make it 5-1 and we didn't have to wait too long to see DEAN OWEN's hat trick that came in the 59th minute.

 

DEAN OWEN then added his 4th and his clubs 7th in the 61st minute as Bilborough Town was falling apart and a few heads were going down.

 

Veteran ANDY WHITE made it 8-1 on 78 minutes before DAVE ROBIINSON completed the scoring to make the final score 9-1.

 

Swanwick Pentrich Road FC is a must for hoppers to visit, as they are issuing their FIRST EVER badge shortly, as they have them on order at the moment, also the village is well worth a visit, as there are TWO pubs that sell real ale, The Steam Packet and the Cross Keys and both are within walking distance of the ground.

THE CROWD ENJOY CHARITY MATCH IN THE SUNSHINE

At Basford United FC

Attendance: Around 600

 

A hot sunny day for this match between the Legends of Nottingham and Leicester City served up a 8 goal thriller in front of a well attended crowd in aid of the superb local charity Wish Upon a Star.

 

Basford United's Chairman Chris Munroe kindly asked us if we would like to bring along our Charity Blog Programme table to the game and the blogging began promoting  this game.

On 0ffer was something for everyone, two bars, 3 places selling fresh hot food, a couple of bouncy castles, a cake stall, live music tent and a good raffle with some excellent prizes.

 

The stars turned out in force both on and off the pitch and I even had a photo taken with the European Cup before the majority of the crowd arrived.

 

The final score no one really bothered about apart from when I got home and the Nottingham Evening Post rang me for the final score as they knew I was there.

 

A great event organised by Basford United FC and they have arranged another Legends game on August Bank Holiday Sunday when Nottingham Legends will face Aston Villa Legends, this time in aid for Help the Heroes Charity.

 

I must thank Basford United for the kind £20 donation towards this blogs charity and we took £18.30p in programme sales, so the total for the charity SUPPORT DOGS now stands at £69.05p. I do have a few programmes from this game which I will have on sale at the Peterborough Groundhop next Saturday.

 

 

LINBY HOT IN THE SUNSHINE

You can never read too much in to pre season friendlies as two teams here tried out a mixture of  first team,/reserves and trailist players in the hot sunshine at the Church Lane Ground in the pictuesque village of Linby.

 

The game kicked off and it was the visitors who made the brighter start and had a goal ruled out for offside after just 3 minutes on the clock, but Linby settled better in the game and pressed forward at every opportunity but the Ashland keeper was in fine form to keep the scores level.

 

On 24 minutes, the homesters went in front when a rebounded shot came out to the edge of the area and MATT MURPHY drove home in to the far corner of the net. Ashland pressed forward but were limited to shots from long distance and didn't test the home keeper, but plugged away.

 

After 42 minutes, BEN RICHARDSON broke down the left wing and on the second occasion popped the ball past the oncoming visiting keeper to make it 2-0.

 

At half time, Ashland made a few changes whilst Linby waited till the hour mark to make theres. At this stage Ashland had their best spell of the game and had another goal disallowed for offside in this period.

 

After 79 minutes, a mistake in the Ashland Defence saw KYLE McDermott dance away in the area and take the ball round the keeper to put his side in to a 3-0 position. Two minutes later, Linby got a corner on the left side which was placed in to the far post and met by the head of TOM COUPE who made it 4-0.

 

A useful exercise for both clubs who will have both taken something from the game.

 

 So after watching 7 matches,  I have seen 33 goals and the charity pot now stands at £30.75 towards the Support Dogs Charity that aid people with disabilities.

BASFORD SHOW FITNESS IN FINAL TEN MINUTES

Basford United FC of the newly formed Midland League travelled the short distance to Notts Senior League outfit Underwood Villa FC on a very hot midweek evening. Since the groundhop was held at Bracken Park, a lot has altered as Underwood are a ambitious club that want to move forward. The shell has now become a nice cosy Clubhouse selling pukka pies, whilst this match was played on the far pitch from the clubhouse as the new first team pitch has been moved and re-seeded.

 

On to the match and it was Villa who had the first couple of chances to which the visiting keeper did well to keep out, once those chances went amiss to be honest though Villa tried hard and their manager was very proud of his lads, there was only one team that controlled the game and that was the visitors. Having said that it did take them 39 minutes before being awarded a free kick just outside the area to be converted by SAM CRAVEN for them to take a slender lead in to half time.

 

The Second Half kicked off and it was much the same with Basford on the attack but the Home defence holding strong and battling well, whilst playing on the break for any chances that came their way. As the game continued Basford missed chance after chance, whilst Underwood played on the long ball which the away defence mopped up time after time.

 

 

The score line looked respectable for Villa until they began to run out of steam and on 79 minutes and 81 minutes KEV HERMAGOU filed away two late goals. Underwood played very well against a step 5 club and was a good exercise and run out for both sides.

 

So after watching 5 matches,  I have seen 29 goals and the charity pot now stands at £29.75 towards the Support Dogs Charity that aid people with disabilities.

 

At Basford United's Ground this coming Sunday, there is a charity match between Nottingham Legends v Leicester City Legends and Basford United's chairman Chris Munroe has kindly invited me and Hazel along to set up the blogs charity programme stall, so please come along and support this worthy cause.

THE STONES ARE LEVEL

Usually when two teams play their first Pre Season game, both sides turn up with so many players, there are so many stoppages in the games so the game never gets going, this game was total opposite to that, yes both teams had a few subs that they bought on and off in awful weather of heavy rain and claps of thunder and the odd strike of lightening, but all credit must go to the Shenstone Groundsman who had this pitch looking like a bowls green.

 

The Game kicked off and Warstone took the game to Shenstone and fired wide on a couple of occasions early doors and it came as no surprise after just 8 minutes when NATHAM McINTOSH knocked the visitors in to the lead. Warstones looked a step ahead of Shenstone at this stage and after 11 minutes, CONNOR FORESTER doubled his teams lead when slipping the ball under the home keepers body.

 

Shenstone then seem to relax more in to the game and created chances of their own and after 25 minutes, thought they had reduced the arrears when the ball struck the inside of the post/crossbar and bounced out and away to safety. Shenstone by now was the side pushing forward and looked the more likely to get on the scoresheet and that they did after 36 minutes when JOSH HASTON headed in at the back post.

 

The Second Half kicked off with Shenstone playing towards the clubhouse end and the away keeper was soon on his toes pushing a early chance around the post. The homesters were applying a lot more urgency in their work and this paid off in after 50 minutes when MICKEL GALLAWAY equalled things up at 2-2.

 

Warstones hit back straight away on 55 minutes with the goal of the game, a few one touch passes made their way to TROY WILSON who from just outside the penalty area spotted the keeper off his line and lobbed him to perfection to make it 3-2 to the visitors.

 

The game at this stage could have gone either way with chance going begging at one end and then the ball up in the other area and in 66 minutes RYAN METCALFE made it level again in the pouring rain.

 

With just 14 minutes to play, Warstones pushed forward and PINDER DEO headed home from close range to make it 4-3. The visitors then went very close to added a fifth but for a finger tip save over the bar from a close range effort.

 

After 81 minutes, Shenstone broke on the counter attack and the ball was laid across for RYAN ROBERTS to tap in from within the six yard area.

 

A good game for both sides played in awful weather but played in the correct spirit.

 

So after watching 5 matches,  I have seen 26 goals and the charity pot now stands at £28.50 towards the Support Dogs Charity.

Wasn't sure if I was going to a match, as with my mum staying for a week, we went on a day trip to Melton Mowbray and Loughborough, so it all depended on what time we got back and then I would have a look what was on. On Sunday, I got a message from Glapwell Programme Editor/Websiteman/Press Officer Paul to say that their match V Heanor had been switched from Palterton to Doe Lea and it was a 7pm kick off. This was food for thought as it was a new ground for me.

 

The coach from the day trip arrived back on Debdale Lane at 6pm and Hazel was there to meet us and it was to Doe Lea we headed, but amongst the houses, there was no sign of the ground, until we saw a car turn up a dirt track and there in the bowl was the pitch with changing rooms, not a bad little set up for a sunday ground.

 

As I went to set my camera up, I realised that I had forgotten my spare battery and my battery in the camera had run out, so no photos today!

 

The game kicked off and the teams had agreed with a roll on roll off subs match, as Glapwell had about 25 players to give a run out to, whilst the Lions had about 17. It was Glapwell who began the brighter of the two sides going close to taking the lead but for the young keeper in the Heanor net who was playing a blinder. Heanor broke a lot on the right wing and they had a fast skilful young number 7 who was teasing the Glapwell defence with his speedy runs and crosses, but sadly his other forwards didn't have the luck of creating the chances.

 

The Second Half saw lots of changes, but it was Heanor who began the Second Half the better, forcing a good save from the Glapwell keeper, but Glapwell came more in to the game and the Young Lions Keeper(man of the match) kept the score at 0-0 with at least 4 excellent saves and blocks.

 

As the game looked as if I was going to witness my 1st 0-0 draw in over 3 and a half seasons, a forward pass from the Glapwell midfield took a deflection and ended up at the feet of JAMES WHITFIELD to round the keeper and tap the ball home after 87 minutes.

 

So after watching 4 matches,  I have seen 18 goals and the charity pot now stands at £26.50 towards the Support Dogs Charity.

CLIPSTONE FC 2 MANSFIELD TOWN XI 1

After my sons 10th Birthday party at a local farm in Shirebrook, it had to be a local game to pull in and I had my eye on Clipstone FC  when this friendly had been made. Always a pleasure to go to this club as everyone greets you with respect from Chairman Brett Marshall to Mr Clipstone Barry Clarke to their supporters.

 

Mansfield Town Under 21's and U19's are to play their matches at Clipstone FC's ground this coming season so of course a pre season game had been arranged.

 

The game kicked off and The Young Stags looked lively and had the first couple of chances on a pitch that looked good enough to play bowls on it and bossed the first 10 minutes of the game, but in Chris Millington's first home match since his appointment as the new Cobra;s manager, they began to settle in to the match and began to play with some fluency.

 

After 21 minutes, a long free kick by the Clipstone keeper was guided to the left winger who floated in his cross to be met by the head of BLAKE OWEN who put the homesters in front. Clipstone could have increased their lead but good defending and keeping by the Young Stags kept the score in tact.

 

At the half time break, Mansfield put out a second string of younger players and they were more effective and more positive in going forwards and threatening, but the Clipstone defence stood tall whilst attacking on the quick break.

 

After 69 minutes, a defensive error proved costly for the young stags and ADAM WISDOM ran on to place the ball past the oncoming keeper to double the Cobra;s lead to 2-0.

 

Mansfield Town to their credit didn't lie down and went straight back on the attack gaining a corner on the right hand side, which was swung in on 71 minute and OLI BROOME pounced first to fire the loose ball home at the near post to set up a tense finish.

 

A good game played in the correct spirit by both teams with some good flowing passing moves between them.

 

So after watching 3 matches,  I have seen 17 goals and the charity pot now stands at £26.25 towards the Support Dogs Charity.

PARKGATE WIN AT THE GRANGE

Germany v Brazil or Teversal v Parkgate..give me Non League Football any time and so did the 42 that also attended this Pre Season game at Teversal Grange.

 

Pre match saw me have a chat with old friend Kev Newton and tea was pie and chips that are always good here cooked by his lovely wife Alison.

 

Teversal began the brighter but it was Parkgate from the Rotherham area who had the first chance where the home keeper had to be at this best to spread low and save a one on one chance to avoid the visitors taking a early lead.

 

On 10 minutes, Teversal took the lead when Naughton lifted the ball over the away advancing keeper. Both side were playing some good football and both keepers had to have their wits about them to keep the score down.

 

Teversal looked to be holding on till half time to preserve their slender lead, but Parkgate was applying more of the pressure and after 43 minutes got a just rewarded equaliser through MORLEY who slotted home from close range.

 

The Second Half began and so did the mountain of subs which slowed the game down a bit and took a bit of the pace off the game. Parkgate looked to just be a little pace quicker to the ball with Teversal depending on quick breakaways.

 

In the 79 minute, a ball was played in from the left which the Teversal defence failed to clear and YOUNG struck home from the back post.

 

After the match, Ryan Atkins made a donation of £2 to the Blog;s charity and as I was leaving the ground, Keith Parnell kindly donated £10.

 

So after watching 2 matches,  I have seen 14 goals and the charity pot now stands at £25.50 towards the Support Dogs Charity.

ALBION PUT IN A OLYMPIC DISPLAY

NOTTINGHAM UNITED FC 1 NETHERFIELD ALBION FC 10

When I saw this pre season, it didn't really stand out, but what did was the venue, Chilwell Olympic. AFC Beeston have used this venue in the past but I missed out them playing there, so after a couple of phone calls to both of todays clubs, my mind was made up.

 

Both clubs are friendly enough so didn't expect anything of a bad game and on route, I got a phone call from Leicester based hopper and fellow blogger Rob Campion who met up with me just before kick off. We were soon joined for a chat by two stunt men who tried legging across a busy dual carriage way after having popped in to a local pub, glad to say that Brian Buck and his mate safely dodged the cars to arrive at the venue.

 

The first few chances went to Nottingham United but didn't really test the Albion keeper, after that it was fairly one way traffic as Netherfield broke and scored at regular intervals, so much that at half time I had tweeted the wrong score..Good job todays Referee and Nottingham United Secretary was there to correct me. Must point out, this is the first time I have seen Martin ref and he did a excellent job.

 

Nottingham United players towards the end let their heads drop and one of them walked off the pitch to leave his side with just ten players, sportingly a ex Nottingham United player who now plays for Netherfield Vets and had ten minutes for Albion this afternoon swopped his shirt and put on the green shirt of Nottingham United.

 

So my first Pre season match sees 11 goals and nets £2.75 in to the Charity Pot taking the total to £12.75p

FIRST DONATION GETS US GOING

A BIG thanks to old friend and my best man Greg Osborne who popped in for a cuppa when in the area.
