Having not seen Calverton MW at home since their CMFL days, I had promised Tony Mullins that I would pay them a home visit before the end of the season. Calverton have a mixture of young and older players to balance their side, whilst Nottinghamshire were struggling for a side. The game was played on the main pitch and I checked out that it was a 6.30pm kick off as the ground has lights or should I say a lack of lights, Tony explained to me that they hire the pitch from the welfare and there are eight lights out and have been for about 14 months but at £200 a bulb the football club cant afford to get them replaced. Infact all credit to Calverton as tehy could well of folded if not for the hard work put in by Tony when the first team folded and left the reserves with nowhere to go and came as their first team into the Notts Senior League. Nottinghamshire FC Reserves entered the game as the whipping boys of the Division but all credit to them, they turn up week in week out and play for football.

 

The game kicked off and was one way traffic for Calverton and they should well have been out of sight except for good shot stopping by the Notts Keeper and poor finishing that the ball ended up in the wood behind the goal on numerous occasions. Nottinghamshire were forced to attack on the break. After 35 minutes, Calverton made the breakthrough when HARRY SIMPSON netted. Just before half time, the visitors had their best chance of the match with the home keeper pulling off a mid air save.

 

After a quick half time break, Calverton took control with two goals in two minutes, with HARRY SIMPSON scoring n the 46th minute and TYLER WHITE making 3-0 in the 48th minute. Nottinghamshire continue to play on the break, but Calverton were now in their stride and on 58 minutes STEVE BRETT made it 4-0 to the Welfare Boys. On 67 minutes, TYLER WHITE scored his second of the game to make it 5-0 and within 2 minutes it was 6-0 when TOM THREAVES scored.

 

Nottinghamshire then played their best football of the game without troubling the home defence and after 83 minutes HARRY SIMPSON completed his hat trick and made it 7-0.

 

Just to finish off, my 10 year old son Shawn who has autism was over the moon in the clubhouse afterwards as he won the football card.

The big match in the Senior Division sees Wollaton FC face West Bridgford FC at The Wollaton Sports Association, where Wollaton FC only need one point in this match to clinch the Senior Division Championship for the third time in their history, meanwhile West Bridgford will be hoping to put behind them a defeat from last weekend at Bingham Town.

OLLERTON TAKE LOCAL BRAGGING RIGHTS

With Shawn being off school for the Easter Holidays, I can get a lift off Hazel to do the odd midweek match and with this local derby just up the road from where I live on a nice sunny evening, I thought I'd pop down to it.

 

Where the players usually get changed was a lot of building work, as they are doing a extention with a new clubhouse, so I walked down to the portacabin that was selling teas and coffees and I picked up the evenings programme.

 

Greeted by locals from both sides, I went over to the Stand side and stodd with AFC Mansfield; Andy Saunders and Pete Craggs, before joining Barry("Clippo") Clarke and Mr Tryner Senior and his wife who kindly bought me a half time cuppa.

 

The first half kicked off with Ollerton kicking down the slight slope and had a few chances, whilst Thoresby played on the break but didn't really trouble the visiting keeper. On 9 minutes, Ollerton had a corner kick on the right hand side that was guided in and ALEX WILFORD volleyed a low shot home to put his side in front.

 

Things got worse for the homesters on 15 minutes, when the ball was played CALLUM ATKINSON who placed the ball in to the bottom corner over the net to double Ollerton;s lead. Ollerton then seemed to take their foot off the gas.

 

The Second Half saw Thoresby put up a bit more of a fight, but not really create that many chances, whilst the visitors best chance fell to Kye Pilmore who's shot was pushed away by the home keeper.

 

Must say, I felt all 3 officials had a good game.

 

I'd like to thank Ollerton Town FC Manager Dave Winter for the kind donation to the Blog's Charity and with the 2 goals scored takes the running total to £462.25.

NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE REVIEW for 11th APRIL

PRECISION NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE REVIEW FOR SATURDAY 11th APRIL 2015

Wollaton FC extended their lead at the top of the Precision Notts Senior Football League Senior 

Division to eight points after winning away at Sandhurst FC 3-0 with a brace from Bowen and Rawson adding a goal. 

Selston FC moved up to second

place with a 3-1 home victory over Awsworth Villa FC with goals coming from Smith, Airey and 

Marriott, with the visitors

scoring through Henson. The battle of the A52 saw Bingham Town FC take the bragging rights a

fter a 2-0 home win against

West Bridgford FC with Hodgson scoring both the goals.Fourth placed Cotgrave FC gained a 4-2 

win over PMG Cavaliers

with goals from Mills, Gray, Jackson and Tustin with PMG replying though two goals from Samuels. 

Attenborough FC 

made it eight straight league wins on the trot when disposing of Keyworth United FC 2-1 at the Strand,

 their goals coming

from Blewitt and Mrvik with Perkins scoring the visitors goal. Ruddington Village FC won on their 

travels 3-2 away at 

Beeston AFC, Rudd’s goals coming from Newbold with a double and Hudson, with Jude and 

McCormack replying. 

Boots Athletic FC gained valuable points when beating basement club Kirton Brickworks FC 7-0 with

 Blair leading the 

way with 4 goals, Palmer with 2 and Jackson adding to the tally.

On Friday evening,

 Burton Joyce FC fought back from 2-0 down to win away at Bilborough Town FC, Town's Webster scoring both the goals whilst in return S. Buckle got a brace and his bother M.Buckle scored in reply.

 

In Division One, Newark Flowserve FC still the table with a 4 point lead after a 2-2 home draw against 

Ashland Rovers,

Boddy and Bosworth the Flowserve scorers, with Fisher and Smith scoring for Rovers. 

Underwood Villa FC who 

are 4 points behind in 2nd place with 3 games in hand failed to close the gap when 

drawing 1-1 at home to Linby CW

Reserves with Smith scoring Villa’s goal with Price replying for Linby. 

Third placed Ruddington Village 

Reserves had a good day with a 5-2 win over Gedling Southbank FC, the villagers scorers were 

Richardson with a 

hat trick, Dunstan and Burke-Campbell, whilst Southbank’s scorers were Coy and Pickard.

Netherfield Albion FC hit five against Rolls Royce Leisure Reserves in a 5-1 victory with goals 

coming from Fowler 

and Douglas both getting braces and Kemp, with Tring scoring for the Hucknall based club. 

Nottinghamshire bounced 

back from losing their last three games to beat South Normanton Reserves by the odd goal in five. 

Brannington, 

Hylton and Hope scoring for Nottinghamshire whilst their visitors goals came from Burton. Radcliffe 

Olympic

Reserves who had lost their previous seven league matches went to Awsworth Villa and returned 

home with a share 

of the points after a eight goal thriller. The home clubs scorers were Scott with two, Morledge and 

Hicklin, 

whilst Olympic’s scorers were Manlezolo, Soiza, Brown and Lemar.

 

Just three games took place in Division Two but there were plenty of goals scored with AFC Clifton

 leading 

the way scoring eleven without reply away at Underwood Villa Reserves. AFC’s scorers saw both

 Richards and Foster 

helping themselves to hat tricks, with Commander and Wilson getting braces and Kerry adding to 

the t

ally. 

Watnall Athletic FC won 8-0 at home against struggling Sandhurst FC Reserves with goals coming 

from 

Brookes with four, Ward with two, Miles and Howart scoring one a piece. Finally Bilborough Town 

Reserves drew at 

home with Newark Town Reserves with the homesters goals coming from Wilcox and Peach, 

Newark’s two goals 

coming from Hurst.

GLAPWELL TAKE STOCK AT SHERWOOD

With Hazel being away, I had to go very local, so walked down to Sherwood Colliery FC for their local derby game v Glapwell FC. On arrival, the kitchen was open so I opted for a all day Breakfast and then had a chat with Sherwood Secretary Phil and was then joined by father and son Phil & Paul Hepworth from Glapwell FC.

 

The game kicked off and it was a bit of a end of season feel to it, infact Sherwood looked like they couldn't wait until the season had ended, as the game was one way traffic towards their net. Chance came and went for Glapwell, but they took the lead after 30 minutes, when CALLUM DOVISON beat the offside trap and rounded the home keeper.

 

The Second Half saw the visitors pus forward again and sub LUKE HEMSTOCK got the ball on the right side and put in a cross shot that sailed over the keepers head in to the net on 66 minutes to thhe surprise of everyone in the ground.

 

On 69 minutes, a low free kick from the right side saw DANIEL RUSSELL produce a diving free kick close to the net to make it 3-0 to Glapwell. Finally on 89 minutes, sub LUKE HEMSTOCK made it 4-0.

 

In the First half, a small puppy dog escaped from its owner and wanted to join in the football, a man ran on the pitch to get his dog as Referee Tim Walker stopped the game and ref showed thee dog the yellow card.

 

The three officials all had very good games.

Bookings for the 3rd Precision Notts Senior League Groundhop have been coming in steady with already over 150 bookings from as far as Sweden, and all four corners of the United Kingdom. The coach is nearly full now with just 53seats remaining and organiser Rob Hornby is fairly confident that this seasons event will be as popular as ever.

Hornby states "that the format is very simple, a Notts Senior League match is played on the evening of Friday 24th April with four league games on Saturday 25th April at four homes of clubs chosen."

The event is cheap and cheerful

 

2015 sees the 3rd Notts Senior League Groundhop to take place on with one match on Friday 24th April where Ashland Rovers host Newark Flowserve at 7.30pm at Kingsway Park, Hodgkinson Road, Kirkby in Ashfield

 

On Saturday 25th April, we have 4 matches beginning at Butt Field, where Bingham Town kick off at 10.10am against local rivals Ruddington Village, we then move on to Netherfield Albion v Nottinghamshire for a 12.50pm kick off, then 5 minutes up the road to the village of Burton Joyce who entertain Attenborough FC at 3.20pm. Our final match sees us travel up to Walesby where a local derby pitches Sandhurst FC at home to Kirton Brickworks at 6.15pm.

 

The cost for the Advanced Ticket is just £15 and that includes entry to all 5 grounds and also a programme pack of the 5 programmes.

 I am also taking Advanced orders for club badges as all 5 home clubs and Kirton Brickworks will be issuing a First Time Enamel club Badge, the set will be £18.

Over the weekend will be a Notts Senior League Groundhop Charity Badge for sale at £3 on the Charity Programme Stall run by my wife Hazel Hornby.

There is a coach on the Saturday from Midland Train Station, Nottingham, leaving at 8.30am and returning after the final match, the cost for the coach is £15, but spaces are limited, infact only 3 seats left.

Here is the Notts Senior League Groundhop Special Chaity Badge..They will cost £3 and will be available on the Charity Programme Stall at the Notts Senior League Groundhop at Ashland Rovers FC v Newark Flowserve FC on Friday 24th April and the first two matches on Saturday 25th April, Bingham Town FC v Ruddington Village FC and Netherfield Albion FC v Nottinghamshire FC. I will have them with me at the two remaining games, Burton Joyce FC v Attenborough FC and Sandhurst FC v Kirton Brickworks FC. BILSTHORPE KEEP THE PRESSURE ON AT THE TOP

BILSTHORPE FC 3 ASKERN FC 1

Been meaning to get to Bilsthorpe FC for some time this season as they played Nottinghamshire FC in the Notts FA Intermediate Cup and their Chairman Stef Hopewell kindly sent a donation towards this Blog's Charity and I wanted to thank him personally. Having looked at the fixtures, it gave me a great opportunity to do that, also I know the players and management have been working hard doing a lot of ground improvements to reach Step 6 level of football.

 

On arrival, I was met by Club Manager Wayne Savage and helped him just carry a few bits to the canteen, before meeting Stef who gave me some Blsthorpe programmes for the Notts Senior league Hop Programme Charity Stall, then York based hopper John McClure arrived and handed me some programmes as well long with some Northern Wisdom magazines.

 

As we were having a cuppa, Football Traveller Editor, Chris Bedford arrived, just after Id got the line up's from both sides, so it was off to pitchside in the blazing sun, it was t-shirt weather today.

 

The game kicked off and it was Askern who looked the more dangerous and the signs were on the wall and after the homesters failed to clear their lines after just 6 minutes, JOE BRYON sprinted through and gave the visitors a derserved lead.

 

This seemed to spark Bilsthorpe in to action and Carter and Cliff both went close. As we were heading in to injury time of the first half, a ball was played through and TRISTRAN BURRELL made no mistake in levelling things up.

 

The teams came out for the second half and the late first half goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Askern as it was now Bilsthorpe on the front foot, getting to the ball first time and seemed a step quicker and on 49 minutes, MARK CARTER put the home side ahead.

 

Bilsthope pushed forward in search of more goals but had to wait until the 79th minute, when the strangest goal of the season happened, a ball played in to the box, was hit towards goal, that was deflected and struck Tony Sykes in the Askern net in the privates, the ball seemed to bounce out to Askern's Michael Attard who seemed to poke the ball past his own keeper, much to the amusement of the home players.

As Cotgrave will be celebrating three points to a last minute winner, Beeston will be left wondering how on earth they didn't get anything out of this game.

 

Before Kick off, a minutes silence was observed for Nottinghamshire FC Treasurer Colin Spencer who sadly passed away last weekend.

 

The game began at a slow pace, with the visitors on the front foot but not many chances being created and on a heavy pitch, things seemed to be a bit if a struggle with very little flowing football being played.

 

After 15 minutes, BEN SMEDLEY followed up after the home keeper had pushed away a shot and put the visitors 1-0 in front.

 

After 22 minutes, JASON JUDE saw the visiting keeper off his line and lobbed home the equaliser from 25 yards.

 

I was glad of my half tome cuppa which my wife Hazel made as she helped out in the Beeston FC tea bar, as at present Tom Richardson is struggling to keep the club alive by himself .

 

Straight from kick off in the Second Half, the homesters were awarded a free kick on the penalty box line, as a player was bought down when going through in goal, the referee booked the opposing player. The resulting free kick flew over the bar and the chance was gone.

 

The Second Half was a lot more exciting than the first with both sides going close, with the game going from box to box.

 

As the game entered injury time and everyone looking at their watches, Cotgrave broke and the ball broke to BEN SMEDLEY to slot home the winner.

The first of the NSL League Cup Semi Finals pitched top v top, top of the Senior Division versus top of Division Two, infact both clubs are only 4 years old, so a interesting tie was on view.

On Saturday, Aspley Park lost their goalkeeper in the warm up, so tonight had to play with a midfield player in the nets.

 

The game was marked with a minutes silence before kick off, as sadly the Nottinghamshire FC chairman passed away at pitchside on Saturday whilst marking out the pitch.

 

From kick off, the game swung from end to end, but as I was on the gate, I forgot to start my stop watch and actually didn't see much of the first half apart from glancing round to see the odd move.

 

West Bridgford took a early lead, but Aspley kept to their game plan and pushed forward and through out the game had goal line clearances on 3 occasions, just before half time the Division Two side pulled it back to 1-1, but on the next attack, the referee looked over at the assistant referee and awarded West Bridgford a penalty for a pull in the box and Bridgford went 2-1 up and then scored again to go in to the the half time interval 3-1 in front . Shawn had enjoyed the first half as he was tormented by Glenn Russell. After a half time cuppa and the referee had drawn the Charity Raffle, to which the Pelican Barman won, I must thank all who purchased a raffle ticket as Hazel had raised £60, so a BIG thankyou to everyone.

 

The Second Half I stood with Coventry Based Groundhopper Clive Dunkley who had missed this ground and the two times we had here on a groundhop. The goals started to go in at regular Intervals for West Bridgford for them to run out 6-1 victors, though Asplay Park didn't disgrace themselves and are a very good side.

 

West Bridgford FC now face the winners of the Second Semi Final Selston FC v Wollaton FC which is to be played at The Stag ground, Kimberley MW FC on 22nd April with a 7.45pm kick off. The final is to be held at Basford United FC on 12th May.
